That's cool. I think there is a special place in heaven for enthusiasts who see a need, and when they have something made for themselves they front the extra expense to make several more for sale to others.
I will always try to do the same.
Need replacement parts for an older Porsche? Usually they're just a phone call away.
That wasn't the case with our oxygen sensor plug, however. The business end had simply crumbled away.
Since a fellow owner also couldn't find the part, he had new ones made. His plug perfectly fits the stock bracket.
We did the deal via Paypal, and just a few days later had our plug. It’s beautiful and fits perfectly.
Our 911 Carrera might be 28 years old, but O.E. parts support from both Porsche and its suppliers has been great. Internal transmission parts? In stock. Electrical items, including a brand-new turn signal stalk? Shipped ASAP. Original equipment body seals and rubber? Not a problem.
We finally thought we had stumped the supply chain, however: a replacement plug for our oxygen sensor. Ours had crumbled away, and judging by the evidence we’ve had a disconnected oxygen sensor for some time.
So we started the search for a replacement. First off, the Porsche parts catalog didn’t even show a part number for the piece—that plug is part of the engine wiring harness. A call to Parts Heaven confirmed that fact: Just that plug is not available, even on the used market.
The factory plug neatly fits into a bracket, and our solution was looking like a generic weather pack connector. Before going that route, we did the next best thing: hopped on the internet and started doing some research.
That’s how we found a gentleman named Louie. He ran into the same problem with his Carrera and rather than giving up, he had his neighbor machine some replacement plugs from Delrin. Then he made some extras. The price was $35 shipped. His e-mail address: lvengco@att.net.
We did the deal via Paypal, and just a few days later had our plug. It’s beautiful and fits perfectly. We spliced it into the harness and were able to retain the factory look. Now our oxygen sensor will be operational.
