Our Porsche will soon trade its huge whale tail for something a bit less huge.
Long story short: There’s a TRE duck tail in our car’s future.
Everyone seems to have their own preference when it comes to Porsche tails: no tail, duck tail, whale tail, Carrera tail, or something huge and monstrous. Our car had a genuine Porsche Turbo tail when it came into our lives.
It’s been rock solid on the highway, but we didn’t care for the looks—a bit too big in our opinion. (We think they look much better when paired with the Turbo flares.)
The cars seem to stick to the road better when fitted with something back there, so we were loathe to go tailless. We’ll cover all of the aero stuff in the magazine, but long story short: There’s a TRE duck tail in our car’s future.
While these tails are usually associated with the 1973 Carrera RS, they were available for 1974 as well. Call our car a backdate to 1974 specs. Right now the deck lid is at The Body Werks being prepped for paint.

To each his own. I like 'em slick, but if it has to have a tail, I like it to be "correct." I'm sure it will still look great, though.
Nice choice. Does the job without going 'whale'. If I want historical relevance I'll read a book.
