Starting to Look Like an Engine

Our flat-six is pretty much together.

And it now has an intake, too.

What’s left? Odds and ends, mostly, including the fan, fan housing, alternator, a/c setup and some belts.

All that work is starting to pay off. Our pile of Porsche 911 Carrera parts has been shrinking, while the engine is starting to look like, well, an engine. The case is now entirely together and sealed, and the freshened intake has been installed.

What’s left? Odds and ends, mostly, including the fan, fan housing, alternator, a/c setup and some belts. We need to install the distributor and spark plug cables. There’s some cleaning left to do, too. Since we didn’t split the case, we couldn’t soak it; we’ll clean some more once everything is buttoned up.

Then we can install the engine sheet metal. As part of the cooling system, the engine is surrounded by a multi-piece sheet metal shroud that directs air through the engine instead of around it. We had our sheet metal blasted and powder coated, so it’s ready to be reinstalled.
