Awesome photo, huh? That's one the dirty, crusty bellcranks that made up our throttle linkage.
Good as new thanks to a little cleaning and a little grease.
The bellcrank arrangement on the top of the engine received some love, too.
Unlike many cars of the era, the 911 doesn’t connect the throttle body to the gas pedal with a throttle cable.
Our 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera uses a somewhat complicated throttle linkage. Unlike many cars of the era, the 911 doesn’t connect the throttle body to the gas pedal with a throttle cable.
On the Porsche, the cable terminates just aft of the passenger compartment. Then a series of bellcranks and rods transfer that motion to the throttle body.
Our bellcranks were a bit dirty, so first they visited the dunk tank. Then we straightened a tweaked arm.
Finally, everything was regreased and reassembled. Our throttle action wasn’t totally smooth before all of this work, so hopefully this extra fiddling will deliver a better experience. We also cleaned the throttle body; that should help the throttle action, too.
