1991 Mazda Miata

“Ginya,” (silver arrow in Japanese), my naturally aspirated, original-owner 1991 Mazda Miata NA6 with more than 355,000 miles on her chassis. Purchased in 1990 when I was flying for the U.S. Navy, she was heavily driven on backroads and was a fun daily driver until 2015, when she was insured as a classic car. Over the past 15 years, Ginya has been substantially rebuilt and upgraded, with an eye to “spirited driving” and an “aviation aesthetic.” Major modifications include a race-built engine and head. Ginya is one of the first MX-5s to be registered as a Historical Vehicle in California. She is also the only car to win “Best of Show - Modified Miata” 3 years in a row—2015, 2016, and 2017 (self-recused in 2018) at the the Miata Reunion, North America’s largest MX-5 event. In 2019, Ginya was 1 of 3 cars invited to be in the event’s first-ever Winners Circle. She also won 1st Place—Favorite/Best Miata at the 2019, 2020 (virtual), and 2021 Classic Motorsports Monterey Kickoff Cruise-In! Ginya was featured on the cover of Moss Miata’s 2021 spring/summer catalog and also in a concurrently released video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxrlBZ7V6LY).
