Land Rover Series IIa 88

Rusty, named for former color, is a 1965 IIa station wagon. He has under gone some big changes in his life. I started with the 2.25 petrol lump and had to change the head because of a crack within the first month of owning him. Then i decided that I “needed” a diesel and I did a swap to a 2.5 N/A diesel from a Defender. Since I had a new lump in place I thought that he needed a new paint job and I brought him back to the cherry red that he started life as… well, OK, it’s not cherry red but International Havestor red - that’s what happens when you live in rural Wisconsin! He was also re-sprung with Rockey Mountain parabolic springs. I was also able to score a vintage Warn winch and, through a friend, a vintage mounting plate. The roof top rack and tent are a nod to what I hope to use him for much more - exploring North America’s back country. Vehicle dependent touring is what I long to do. See Overland Journal for a complete explanation of this madness. For the local twisty roads I recently acquired a Triumph GT6. This I plan on keeping stock. Yeah, right. That’s what i said about Rusty, too!

Seriously cool. I love old Landy's. Would that diesel be the 4cyl or 5 cyl?
