Friend of GRM Garth Stein's awesome book, The Art of Racing in the Rain, is finally coming to the big screen, and this trailer just dropped. Here's how the studio describes it:
Based on the best-selling novel by Garth Stein, THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN is a heartfelt tale narrated by a witty and philosophical dog named Enzo (voiced by Kevin Costner). Through his bond with his owner, Denny Swift (Milo Ventimiglia), an aspiring Formula One race car driver, Enzo has gained tremendous insight into the human condition and understands that the techniques needed on the racetrack can also be used to successfully navigate the journey of life. The film follows Denny and the loves of his life - his wife, Eve (Amanda Seyfried), their young daughter Zoe (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), and ultimately, his true best friend, Enzo. In Theaters August 9.

It's been quite a few years since I've read any non-fiction books, but I always did hear good things about this one. Hopefully they'll do justice to the book!

I read the book and being a dog lover as well as a car enthusiast thought it was great. Passed the book around to friends and family members and they all liked it. Patrick Dempsey bought the movie rights to the book a long time ago. Looking forward to seeing the movie.

One of my favorite books of the last few years. Happy to see it’s finally getting a movie.

I read this years ago and it was excellent. Hope the movie does it justice.

Haven't read the book (but now I will), but for those who have....assume the movie is kids-friendly? My girls love dogs and maybe if they see dogs with racecars, they'll like racecars too :D

Well... I would not exactly say it's kid friendly. There are two rather key adult themed issues throughout the book that have nothing to do with racing.
And those two subjects will be interesting to see if they both make it. One does, from what I can see in the trailer.

This berking book had me bawling in the sauna at the gym (during my divorce), everybody must’ve been like wtf is this guy’s problem lol.

Yep. They're so integrated into the plot that I'm not sure how they can skip them. One of them is a bit politically incorrect, these days, though.

The book can be an emotional roller coaster so I see no way the movie cannot be. It seems most movies can not capture the details of any book. Highly recommend reading the book before seeing the movie. Book is also available as an audio book if you have a long commute. It’s worth the time.
