Sure, the Civic Type R is fast on track, but is it faster than a GR Corolla?
We took the Type R to our official test track, the Florida International Rally & Motorsport Park, and compared its on-track data against the data from the Corolla to find out.

Track times aside, I never thought we'd be comparing a Civic Type R against a Corolla.

In reply to Colin Wood :
The lesser models of Civic and Corolla are direct marketplace competitors. It doesn't seem like a stretch at all. It's just that the Type R has many years of history and the GR is a relatively new thing.

Sucks we never got some of the performance oriented Corollas from Japan from the 90s to compete with some of the Civics/Integras of the day

Closest Toyota ever tried in the past for USDM was the XRS with the 2ZZ

I'd imagine both have a smilar terminal velocity once pushed out of the back of a C-130 at altitude.

Any takeaways compared to the Elantra N? Did the CTR also out-grip the EN or was it grip + acceleration?
I think the GRC comes with pilot sport 4, but the Elantra N comes with pilot sport 4S like the CTR.

The FK8 Civic, GRC, Elantra N and Veloster N were basically dead heats on the clock. The Honda pulled a little harder and the Hyundais handled a little better and the GRC kind of split the difference.
This does bring up and interesting point that we're looking at doing some data analysis comparisons now that we have all of this track data and b roll on various cars, so we'll definitely put a direct Hyundai/Honda comparo on that wish list for a deeper dive.

Can we get a quick written break down?

Never thought id see this from a Hyundai over a Honda R car.

Comparing the FK8 Type R vs the new FL5 is not really fair. The FK8 is on 8.5" rims with 245 tires while the FL5 is on 9.5" rims with 265 tires. One would expect the FL5 to have a lower track time. What really surprises me is that the FL5 pulls harder with basically the same motor as the FK8 when the minor HP increase is countered by the increased weight. Does the torque peak come on earlier with the newer car?
