The Mini Cooper and the Volkswagen Beetle have a lot in common–both were relatively inexpensive modes of transportation when first introduced, both became pop culture icons and both were produced for multiple decades.

Years ago, I pulled into my daughter's middle-school parking lot in the 1974 Spider in my profile pic,
An original Mini with *roll-up windows* (gasp!) pulled in right beside me. Naturally we started chatting.
"What year Mini is that?" I asked. The owner looked left and right quickly, as if checking for spies.
"According to the title, it's a 1967, but it has all the model year 2000 upgrades."
