A Veritas Scorpion Cabriolet, one of the first post-war German sports cars made

After World War II, the allies put stringent restrictions on what German automakers could build. This car, a 1949 Veritas Scorpion Cabriolet, was built so that racers could do the one thing they love doing–going fast.

To skirt the 1-liter maximum allowance for engine displacement, they used preexisting BMW 326 and 328 engines. Customers supplied their own power plants–plus some cash–and soon after they received a new, running car from Veritas. The company’s first customer was legendary German driver Karl Kling, who has podiums in Formula 1 competition.

This Veritas Scorpion is one of only a handful of surviving examples worldwide, making it an ultra-rare piece of German automotive history.
