Carlo Ponti Sr. certainly had an eye for aesthetics. As a movie producer he worked with Italian greats such as Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni and Vittorio De Sica. He was also married to the beautiful Sophia Loren. And he owned this Cistalia 202, which the New York’s Museum of Modern Art owns an example of.
Technically, Ponti owned the car through his movie production company A.T.A. for roughly a year (1950-1951). When the current owner purchased the car in 2016, they had it restored and then it really shined.
The restored Cistalia received awarded at Pebble Beach and the Cavallino. It also won the Craftsman/Phil Hill Restorers award at The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance–twice.
Find this 1949 Cisitalia 202 SC Gran Sport Cabriolet for auction at Gooding & Company, with an estimated value of $500,000-$700,000.
