De Tomaso Mangusta: The rare sports car named after a Cobra fighter

Photography Courtesy Beverly Hills Car Club

The Mongoose is one of the few animals to look at a Cobra snake and think “Yeah, I can fight that.”

Fitting, then, that De Tomaso named the follow-up to its first roadgoing model, the Vallelunga, after the Mongoose: Mangusta.

De Tomaso only made around 400 examples of the Mangusta, with this one believed to be one of even fewer available on the market.

Whereas Hagerty values top examples of the Mangusta at $300,000 or more, this one is listed at less than $190,000.

The car does run and drive, per the seller, but will also need "some additional work to be roadworthy, which is reflected in the price.”

Find this 1969 DeTomaso Mangusta for sale from Beverly Hills Car Club, with an asking price of $189,950.
