As a car maker, how can you ensure your cars are eligible to compete in a racing series? Easy: just make your own racing series.
That’s pretty much what Lamborghini did in creating its one-make Lamborghini Supertrophy, the predecessor to the modern Lamborghini Super Trofeo.
Following the Diablo SV-R created for the Supertrophy in 1996, Lamborghini introduced the Diablo GTR for the 2000 season. Just as the SV-R was based on the road-going SV, the GTR was likewise based on the production GT.
While the 567-horsepower, 6.0-liter V12 from the GT was retained, the GTR received several upgrades that raised output to nearly 600 horsepower.
Other notable upgrades include 18-inch Speedline magnesium centerlock wheels, a hydraulic air jack and a larger, chassis-mounted rear spoiler.
In total, Lamborghini only produced 30 examples of the GTR. This example–chassis No. 18—is believed to have made its way to Japan after first being delivered to Germany and later spending time in the United States.
The GTR is also billed to be “entirely original,” showing just 6770 kilometers, or about 4200 miles, on the odometer.
Find this 2000 Lamborghini Diablo GTR for auction by Bingo Co. on January 10-12 with an estimated value of ¥110,000,000-¥130,000,000, or approximately $697,228-$823,997 USD.
