Highly original. One of three. Matching Numbers. Yes, this 1938 Bugatti Type 57C Atalante would make a fine addition for one’s top-tier car collection.

Only 33 Type 57 chassis were fitted with the Atalante coachwork. This example, chassis No. 57767, is the 31st. The number 31 is marked inside of the hood, engraved on the trunk’s woodwork and written in chalk on the backside of the dashboard’s woodwork. Of those 33, only 5 were factory supercharged. Of those 5, only 3 were fitted with an aluminum body.

A 3257cc DOHC all-alloy 8-cylinder, with a Roots-type supercharger, powers the car. It makes 160 bhp at 5500 rpm. Over the course of its history, its engine block was replaced.

Jean Piger owned the vehicle for 60 years. During his ownership, he had the sides painted yellow in traditional Atalante style. The black paint appears to date back to the late 1940s. The interior is original, including the dash and the leather on the seats.
