The thrill of a vintage Formula 1 car, but for (comparatively) less? Why not a Formula 2 car like this March 782?

Noted to be highly competitive in its day–racer Bruno Giacomelli won eight of the 12 races in the 1978 F2 championship behind the wheel of a March 782–this Formula 2 racer is powered by the renowned BMW M12/7 engine.

This example was bought new by Gottlieb “Gerd” Biechtler, who drove the 782 in two races in 1978 before the end of the season. After changing hands a few times, the March was loaned to a then-young Jo Gartner, who used the car to compete in the 1980 European Formula 2 Championship.

As the listing explains, the March underwent a comprehensive restoration in 2012 in which “no stone was left unturned in the quest to return the single-seater to its former glory and prepare it for historic competition.”

Today, the March retains its original magnesium bulkheads and is eligible for numerous vintage racing events like the Historic Sports Car Club Formula 2 series in the U.K. and Masters Historic Racing Formula Atlantic Plus series here in the U.S.

The 782 is also accompanied by a small spares package and an FIA Historic Technical Passport good through 2028.
