Yes, this CLK is one of only two known survivors from an original production run of just four, but it also represents a milestone in the history of the AMG brand.
Up until the debut of the 6.2-liter M156 V8–the first engine fully developed by AMG–the power plants used in Mercedes-AMG models were based on a Mercedes-Benz unit.
The vehicle used to help develop the M156? That’s right, this very P900.
The car also served as a demonstration vehicle to promote the then-brand-new M156. Factory drivers, including Jean Alesi, Jamie Green, and Bernd Schneider, used the car to take VIP clients on rides around several European circuits.
While never officially sold–the only other P900 is still retained by AMG–this CLK eventually made it into the hands of a “Mercedes and AMG client” as part of a purchase of several racing cars.
