What’s rarer than a Ferrari 250 GTO? A Ferrari 250 LM. The Italian automaker just made 32, but of those only two were never raced. This is one of them, providing a fantastic time capsule for the car that last won Le Mans for Ferrari–before this year, of course.
The car comes complete with its original tubular chassis, engine, and gearbox, which has been confirmed by Ferrari Classiche. The car’s history is well documented, which included a stint as the NART backup car for the 24 Hours of Daytona.
The car underwent a thorough restoration from 1998 to 1999 by DK Engineering. How thorough? It still retains its original bodywork. As DK Engineering’s Phil Ashley told Classic & Sport Car in 1999: “Once we’d stripped the paint off, you could see evidence of several ‘offs,’ including a rear shunt. The owner was determined to keep the original body, so repairs took longer than planned. (…). The preparation for paint also ran over on time, but that’s always the price if you try to keep original metal. The owner was understanding.”
Find this 1964 Ferrari 250 LM Berlinetta by Pininfarina up for auction at Artcurial, with an estimated winning bid of €13,500,000-€20,000,000 (approximately $14,705,550-$21,786,000).
