During the 2002-2003 offseason, Ferrari commissioned N.Technology to create two FIA-spec 550 Maranello chassis. These cars would be essentially prototypes for the privateer-focused 575M GTC. This is one of those 550 GTC examples.
JMB Racing, with Le Mans and Daytona experience, fielded the entries. This particular chassis, No. 2102, debuted in the Donington 500km and then proceeded to compete in the Spa 24 Hours. At Spa, the Ferrari led its class at the 6-hour mark, and then second in its class at the 12-hour mark. However, engine issues ended the race for the 550 GTC at 326 laps. The winner, an N-GT Porsche 911 GT3 finished the race with 479 laps around Spa.
After the 2003 season, Ferrari took possession of the car and then sold it to Piero Nappi. Nappi was an avid hillclimber, and won 40-some class wins and three titles (2005, 2006, 2014) in the Campionato Italiano Velocità Montagna. In 2017, the Ferrari’s second private owner had a sympathetic restoration to the 2003 Spa livery performed. Both the engine (2016) and gearbox (2017) have been rebuilt.
