One of three surviving Corvette ZR1 active suspension prototypes

Technically, this prototype Corvette shouldn’t exist–or, rather, it shouldn’t still survive.

GM, with help from Lotus, developed some 25 Corvette ZR1 models fitted with an active suspension system. Despite the project costing nearly $30 million, all the prototypes were ordered to be scrapped.

Someone clearly ignored the memo, however, as three examples were known to have been spared. This Corvette ZR1 is one of those three.

Aside from the active suspension system, the prototype ZR1 also features several one-off components, including air vents in the hood and air scoops under the front bumper.

The Corvette currently shows 12,373 miles on the odometer and is noted to have been “maintained and stored year-round in a climate-controlled facility.”

Find this 1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Prototype Coupe for auction from Mecum, with an estimated value of $70,000-$90,000.
