Pebble Beach class win (2013). The Amelia class win (2016). AACA First Junior award (2013). This 1963 Watson Coral Harbour Special Roadster is not only a piece of revived Indy history, but also an award-winning example.

The race car competed in the 1963 Indianapolis 500, with its race ending early due to a magneto failure. It is one of 23 examples built by A.J. Watson, a six-time Indy 500 winner as a car builder. Its car owner, Lindsey Hopkins, never won an Indy 500, but earned 11 victories as an owner in IndyCar competition from 1950 to 1973. Its driver, Jim Rathmann, out-dueled Rodger Ward for the 1960 Indy 500 victory, often considered one of the greatest 500s ever.

The Watson Coral Harbour Special Roadster underwent an extensive nut-and-bolt restoration, completed in 2013. Mecum notes that despite its race history, it has never been cut, wrecked or modified.

Find this 1963 Watson Coral Harbour Special Roadster for auction at Mecum, with an estimated value of $450,000-$550,000.
