Could it be that the first time Pontiac used the premise of winning on Sunday to sell on Monday may have come with this 1926 Pontiac Hill Climb Speedster?

One of the first Pontiacs ever built, this Speedster originally started out as a two-door sedan. After enduring a fire that destroyed its interior shortly after being sold, the dealer–McRorie Sautter of Utica, New York–bought it back. The dealer then had Willoughby Coachworks rebody it as an open, two-seat speedster. Not long after, driver McRorie Sautter saught to enter the Pontiac into a hillclimb.

In the competition, the car finished first in class, third overall. McRorie Sautter then ran an ad in the local newspaper touting their success, trying to encourage people to buy a new Pontiac.

Many decades later, the car started to win other accolades, this time in the concours arena, at events like The Amelia.
