The twin of T-Rex, the banned Jeff Gordon stock car

NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon won with a car dubbed “T-Rex” in the 1997 All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. After the victory lane celebration ended, NASCAR told Hendrick Motorsports to not bring the car back. The team had built two like it, and this one for sale is the backup to the race-winning ride.

The team used every fraction of an inch available within the rulebook to build T-Rex, making use of modifications such as “raised floor pans, shocks placed outside the frame rails, unique underbody aerodynamics, stiffer chassis” and other innovations.

With the car ineligible to compete, Hendrick Motorsports used the backup car to practice pit stops and raise funds for the Hendrick Marrow Program. It sat at the team’s facility until it was acquired by an employee. It was then acquired in 2017 by Rhine Enterprises, and underwent a comprehensive restoration before being bought by the current owner in 2021.
