How do you get a Ferrari race car built to your specs for the road? By relationship building … and money of course. That’s just what Alfred Ducato did with this Ferrari 375 MM Berlinetta.
Ducato was one of Ferrari’s early patrons. He bought 11 Ferraris in the span of two decades. Ducato befriended both Enzo Ferrari and North American importer Luigi Chinetti. When he saw the 375 MM win at the Golden Gate races, he had to have one … but for the street and with some special requests. Enzo Ferrari and Chinetti agreed to sell him one.
Ducato wanted a more comfortable version of the 375 MM, and Pinin Farina built him a body to accommodate his requests for more room. After receiving it, Ducato took it to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, where it won first in class in 1956. However, it was not suitable for daily driving, encountering some issues with the magneto and engine. So he traded it in, in 1958, for a 250 GT Pinin Farina Coupe. Since then, the 375 MM has only had three owners since new and retains its matching-numbers engine, gearbox and differential.
