How much does the BMW 328 mean to the automotive world? It was named a finalist for the Car of the Century in 1999. This particular example holds even more weight–it podiumed at Le Mans in 1939 and at Pebble Beach in 2022.
Drivers Ralph Röese and Paul Heinemann steered the BMW to a second in class, and seventh overall, during the 1939 24 Hours of Le Mans. They were outdone by another BMW 328 driven by Max zu Schaumburg-Lippe and Fritz Hans Wenscher. Only three Special Competition chassis were supplied to the German team.
D.L. Geroge Historic Motorcars restored the BMW to as-raced condition. It’s not only a podium finisher during in-period competition. The BMW took third place in the Early Le Mans class at the 2022 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
