This Porsche 718 RSK Spyder competed at Le Mans and Pikes Peak

Love cars with competition history? This 1959 Porsche 718 RSK Spyder was raced extensively in period, at events ranging from Le Mans to Pikes Peak.

Le Mans class winner Ed Hugus had this car, dubbed “Lucybelle III,” built for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959. With it, Hugus competed at the front of his class until an engine failure ended his run at 240 laps. When Don Ives acquired the car in 1960, he raced the car in SCCA competition … and the famed Pikes Peak hillclimb in 1962, where he finished fourth in his class.

Later on in its life, the Porsche made an appearance at the 1998 edition of The Amelia concours, where it claimed the Road & Track trophy. It then stayed out of public view until 2018, when it was sold. After that, the Porsche underwent an extensive, 30-month restoration, returning it to its Le Mans spec. Since then, Lucybelle III has appeared at the Pebble Beach and Audrain concours and attended the Colorado Grand.
