The Facel II was the last attempt for the French marque to build a luxury GT. This example being offered is the first prototype of that effort.
Company president John Daninos called the car the company’s best and “most elegant.” Celebrities must have agreed, as several had them, including artist Pablo Picasso, fashion designer Christian Dior, Formula 1 legend Sir Stirling Moss, and Princess Grace of Monaco, to name a few.
This example was the one Facel Vega used as a prototype. It must have held a special spot in Daninos’ heart, as he registered the car under his own name just months after the Facel Vega factory had shut down.
Find this 1959 Facel Vega Facel II Prototype up for auction at RM Sotheby’s, with an estimated winning bid of $750,000-$1,100,000.
