Bascally a detuned version of the straight six found in Supras from the same time period. The wagon has a live rear axle, unlike the sedans with their independent rear suspension. Therefore, the wagons don't handle as well. They understeer heavily. They don't ride as well as the sedans either.

Having said that, the size is great for utilitarian hauling things around. The engines are extremely rugged ( half a million miles is reachable) but suffer some problems with their hydraulic bucket-style lifters at high mileages. Occasionally this turns into a wiped-out cam lobe or other valvetrain problem. Watch out for leaking oil seals soaking the timing belt. These motors are smooth and torque-y. An excellent highway car.

I am loving mine, I was considerin getting rid of it for a while but I had a change of mind. I decided it just needed some more mods and a 5 speed.

The wagons had smaller wheels and brakes also when compared to the sedans.

They've got basically no aftermarket support?

Wow, those are nice. There's not many of them left around here due to rust. I'd buy both of those at those prices if they were local.

5me's have very little support.

be prepared for slowness.

while way above average when new, 20+ years have passed now. It's a good car for the money, but I wouldn't let my aspirations run away with me.
