Being a 454, that mileage he listed is actually pretty normal for them, maybe even on the high side. Ya don't get a big block for mileage. It will pull a house with no problems.

Reminds me of when I had my Cummins. While the tank wasn't as big and mpg was usually in the upper teens, with the cost of diesel fill-ups were still ~$100 each. I don't miss that one bit.

Back when I was doing satellite work all over north FL and south GA, I put a 120ish gal Aux tank in the bed of my K2500 with a 6.2, just so I could fill up in GA and run for a week or so. 350ish to fill up both tanks in GA vs 100 or so for just the stock 35gal tank. I miss that truck. I really don't need this thing, and SWMBO has kindly pointed out that it's outside of our current price range, but damn the want is strong.

If you want rust pictures I can get them, but basically it's starting to get crispy at the edge of the fenderwell behind those rear flares, and the passenger side has a hole the size of a nickel just above the flare. All the body mounts are good, floors, suspension, etc.

Dang it, I had a suburban that was one generation older and i miss that thing!

Bump- lots of interest, lots of craigslist loonies, but it's still here. My current want is to trade for a small manual pickup, but that changes daily.

Yeah, go figure- maybe I should stop being honest about the fuel economy...

What axles are under this thing? happen to know the gearing? Maybe with some numerically lower gears those numbers can improve.

Everything I've read on the subject states that the TBI 454 basically gets what it gets, gearing and aero be damned. You're welcome to buy it and prove that wrong though!

My original plan when I sell off the SVX was to pick up an extended cab or crew cab truck with a 350. Test the MPG. Do some aero work, test the MPG. Then put a TPI system on it. Test it, Then go whole hog and build a stump pulling 383 with the TPI. Test it. Finally boost it and see where that gets me mpg wise.

The burban would put me near the end game without a readily available TPI source. Gotta think on it and get a new engine in the SVX and get it down the road. First, but if you still have it, when I do get to that point. I'll likely be looking you up.

So, I have an idea- Spinout, if I drive this monster to Gainesville and help thrash on the Fiero last minute challenger, will you buy it from me?

Not enough money in my pocket ATM, Gotta get some stuff down the road first. Besides the wife would kill me for emptying the account for a low mpg beast. If the other stuff is gone, "whatever you want dear". "you've got to drive it, not me"

Edit: Unless you want to trade it for a highly modified SVX with a spun rod bearing. Not sure how you would get it home though.

I mean, I do, but I assume it's not as easy as dropping the pan and putting a new bearing on, then driving 1000 miles.

you know... I haven't thought of trying that. hahaha, might have to take a look at that tonight. That's what I get for being emotional when I looked at it.

Happened in the usual way, hard high speed 90* left hander, followed by rapid application of the right hand pedal. I knew better, but was in a hurry and pissed @ the wife for delaying me. Ended up REALLY delaying me.

Edit: Not sure if you would be able to do that with a subie engine. I was pretty sure I would have to split the case to do it.

Looking at a teardown of an EJ22 I don't think it would be possible, no way to get to the top bolt on the rod. Good thought though. Thinking back on it. I might have looked at going this route and came to the same conclusion.

Edit; Never mind on this, I just contacted a semi-local yard about a 98k mile motor they've got. I'll put it up for sale soon. Wanted to see it through to the end and it gives me an excuse to order the power steering rebuild parts so it's "perfect" as a 23 year old car can be.

and I immediately bought a BRAT with the proceeds

Fun Fact: although PA considers the Suburban a station wagon, and therefore it gets "car" plates, the BRAT is considered a pickup, and requires much more expensive "truck" plates.

LOL. MD goes by weight and both would qualify for historic tags (ie cheap). How crusty is the BRAT? Pics!
