I have a desire to attend my 4th consecutive Challenge.

I have a desire to drive my Healey in a very spirited manner.

Is there a way to get these two together?

Would everyone like to see the Healey as an Exhibition Class Car?

I was never completely clear on the rules and intent of the exhibition class and I don't want to be a "Richard".

I promise to drive it in a spirited but reverent manner.

If this is ok, what would be the rule on seat belts? It never had any new, and now has lap belts.

It is on DOT tires, but from reading the rules, I'd need a harness? Not sure how I would fit a harness to the Healey without modifying it in a way that I don't really want to....

My second thought would be to enter my 1992 U42T Mitsubishi Kei Truck. I paid $1200 for it about 5 years ago, and although it's going to need a clutch, budget wise, it would be ok. I'm pretty sure I can produce a set of stability calcs that would allow it to compete... it is also on DOT approved tires, and is titled, tagged and insured.

So it could be a 200tw class gastropod type car.... But it won't be a lot of fun to watch, I don't think.... But it would be the first Kei class vehicle to enter and COMPLETE a challenge I think. lol

AND, one last question for the hive... can my 12 year old son be on my crew list? As no spectators are allowed, he will have to wield a wrench.... lol.

It's awesome.

4wd h/l ranges

Sides fold down.

Street legal

Stereo, Heater, intermittent wipers, beats out any sxs in my opinion,

Great payload capacity, use it all over the yard.

I of course love the Healey having ridden in it.  I think they won't like the seatbelt situation.  Pretty sure the rules say 3 point OEM is good.

I also love the Kei Truck.  But measure it for the 1 to 1 rule.  Height can't be more than track width.

My 12 year old is on my team list so I don't think that's a problem.  If you end up no vehicle then I can add you guys to my team list.  Beards are a requirement just so you know.  12 year olds excluded.

The 1:1 rule is a screening tool, as I understand it. I believe that I can measure my cg height and show it is less that 1/2 the average track width. That is a more accurate screening for static stability where on DOT tires with less than 1g lateral force being generated and a sufficiently low cg height, you prove you cannot create a moment about he outboard tire that is greater than the opposite moment generated by gravity through the cg @ 1/2 the track width.

I read "The 1:1 rule is a screening tool" and then the whiskey kicked in.

As it should.

Really looking forward to catching up with you.

As a Jacksonville native, remind me to show you something that I recently aquired next time you are out here. You will enjoy it I think....

Looking forward to seeing you also and your new thing.  I wanna guess that maybe just hopefully it was originally built under where the Matthews Bridge is now?

No. But what would that be?

Ford had an old plant here that made cars from 24 to the 60s apparently.  One of my dreams is to find a Jacksonville built car.

Sorry, but the exhibition rule is for cars that accidentally went over budget and similar situations, and requires approval from the staff.

But it's never too late to pick up a cheap car from the classifieds and have some fun!

You'll have to widen the truck significantly to make it work. Please don't bring it...

That's what I thought, hence the attempt to not be a "Richard". Just couldn't find that specifically in the rules. Not saying it isn't there, just couldn't find it.

Ok so Jeep XJ front axle and an 350z/Q45/Whatever IRS rear subframe.  I have a 350 SBC we can drop in the bed and bolt it right to the rear diff.  Parking lot build the BAest Kei truck.  Shouldn't take but an hour or so.
