Hell MOST RBs are RWD.
Trying to convince a friend that his 240Z really needs an RB20DET. (The super awesome edition 240Z had a 2-liter DOHC six)
<3 MINE <3
RB20 needs a oil pan and sump reversal and should fit in the 240z with very few mods.
I have dreams of finding a Lincoln LS 5 speed with a bad engine, and putting a 32v 4.6L from a Lincoln Continental (same bolt pattern as the 3.0L in front of the 5 speed), then add Cobra intake and cams. How bad ass would a 4dr 5 speed sleeper Cobra be?

Hmmm... RB powered with a rwd swap.
screw it... add in ATESSA and win at life
If the rims fit my mustang, I might pick it up just for those, and flip the rest.

5x108 bolt pattern high positive offset was stock on those cars.

Yeah, if it's running stock hubs, they are a no-go for me.

I doubt the trans would handle that.......
and being in the 5x108 lug camp with the sho's, the lincoln wheels require nearly 1" spacers.....and our offset is +35-45 lol
Fit_is_slo still has the Lincoln Mark 8 for sale. He is also North Atlanta local and all you would need is, what, a Mustang trans bolted up to that Mark 8/Cobra motor? So for less than $2k, you can have this car running?
Somebody take that temptation away from me.

Quit it . . .

The only problem is, the engine is generally the best part of the car. The Duratec V6 is beyond bulletproof.
That's not to say it can't happen, but damn. Everything on that car is absurdly expensive. Favorite example: Had an LS with bad lower ball joints turn into a $2000 repair bill. To press the ball joints up and out of the spindle (they mount like early wishbone Accords) requires removing the bearing assemblies because they're in the way. The bearing assemblies would not come out. Had to replace the bearings and the (aluminum) uprights.
Epilogue: While trying to separate the bearing assemblies from the uprights to increase the scrap value, I sawed into one of the uprights in two places, applied a lot of heat, and the 20-ton press still wouldn't budge them. So, I didn't really feel bad about selling him all those new parts, since I don't think God could have miracled those things apart.
Every LS I've seen also has horrible creaks from the rear suspension because the pillow ball style "bushings" dry out and squeak. They're similarly horrendously expensive to replace. Nobody I've seen has ever actually went for it, so I don't know what kind of gotchas there are.
What I'm getting at is, for an LS to be so horribly maintained that the engine fails, the rest of the car has got to be complete garbage.
(But yes, your idea would be badass. Start with a GOOD one, though)
I think I know the guy that owned this car back in 2004. He had built the car himself which was pretty impressive. I worked with him at Team Ford of Marietta, he was an internet sales guy. He reminded me of Steve Urkel grown up with a dash of smug shiny happy person mixed in. I would probably still want to punch him in the mouth if I ran across him again.

Ideally, I would buy the little old lady that prefers a 5 speed's car, that she just happened to run over a brick that went through the oil pan and damaged nothing else, then seized the engine. That might be hard to find.
That being said, I've changed those ball joints here at the shop and I didn't think they were that bad. I got them out just fine without removing the hub/wheel bearing. But yeah, the suspension on those are more needy than an E30 or an E36.
Anybody know what happened to this car? It's one of the rare instances where I still remember the ad a year later and think "damn that was a neat car".
