my challenge tow vehicle and my partner in crime are unavailable due to "berkeley dude, why is it Memorial Day weekend?" some would say god has given me a lemon. and some would say make lemonade, while others would say find a new god, and yet others would say squeeze my lemon til the juice run down my leg.
those are all good suggestions, but they don't get me and my car to the Challenge.
i can rent an "F150 or similar" from Enterprise for $575 all in. But that puts my trip at about $3200, assuming my plan to borrow a trailer doesn't fall through. i feel a bit hypocritical when i suggest to my wife that we don't need new throw rugs for the foyer and hallway, then say "oh yeah, i'm spending three grand on a week that is 100% for me."
i'm still gonna be there, and i'm still bringing MonZora, and we're still gonna butt-punch the whole field. I guess i just needed to vent. thanks for listening.

Unless they've changed, they won't let you tow with the standard rentals - you've got to go with the Enterprise Truck Rental outfit which was always three-quarter ton equipment.
But they may have changed that... It was about a covid ago when I last looked.
Ship the car to me and then fly down. I would be happy to receive it and store it until you arrive. Challenge it and the fly home. I'll meet the shipper and make sure it gets loaded up to head back to you.

I'm seeing a perfect opportunity for a drive-n-drive. It's like a fly-n-drive where you buy a cheap rust-free southern truck to take home, but the twist is you get there by buying a northern truck then selling it when you arrive. Think of the fun!

I was fantasizing of that very approach, if she was running by St Patrick's day and driving by tax day. But "yeah, I'm on the shoulder in Manrape GA with a smoldering pile of shrapnel and I hear banjos" isn't the story I want to tell.

How about a lend borrow deal with your partner in crime. Lend him a daily driver, borrow tow vehicle, drive to Challenge, have a ball. Keeps Momma relatively happy, your buddy with a ride, and you're in the mix. Good luck, either way.
