We went to paint the wheels for our MR2 project yesterday and found two of them have large cracks that are not repairable. The budget had been planned to use the rims off the car so obviously this is an unexpected expense. We are trying hard to stay in the gastropod class, so the recoup rules are more restrictive, we are well under budget for normal challenge rules so that is not an issue. Anyone with a brilliant idea? I have been looking in the usual places for some OEM takeoffs, looks like 350z wheels are a good fit for size and offset, What other creative solutions does the hive have.

Part of this is just learning to over come obstacles and the boys are learning valuable lessons. I did put up a WTB add in the parts section.

In 5x114.3 Jeep wheels are my go to. You can get them in 15x7 and I believe 15x8. I'll ninja edit a picture of ours in.

I missed the 17 inch thing. I'll trade you two 17s for your broken two. Mine are heavy though. I was going to scrap mine so your broken two won't matter.

Are they 17 x 7 or 8 and any idea of offset. Things get tight with mr2. I could go 17 x 8 in the back and use my existing 17x7 up front. They would be a mis matched set but gets me rolling whole looking for a matched set.

I have a set of 15's that would fit.  They have a set of old Hoosier's mounted to them.  $100 bucks if you want them.  I think they are Enkies...

I have a standing offer out to any Gastropods who need to borrow tires and wheels. I'm bringing them to the Challenge this year for towing purposes, but will be racing on a different set. Anyone is welcome to borrow my Rikens on Infiniti wheels per the Stampie rule. They served me well at the 2018 Challenge. Very good tire for the money.

Riken Raptor ZR (300 TW)

$219.88 budget hit for the set of 4

Thanks for the offer, I think the problem with 15" is finding a gastropod tire that fits. The indu 500 tire I wanted to use is not even made in 15 and does not have a 16 that will fit.

Thanks for the offer we will keep that in mind. That budget hit would put us out of gastropods but that may happen anyways. Right now we are trying to keep that alive.

Ok so there are some great offers here and I am looking through FB and Cl. Question when you see wheels and tires together, how do you go about separating FMV for the tires that you don't want. Sometimes the tires are worn and worthless, easy, sometimes the tires are worth more than the rims. Since recoup is limited to gastropods, have the seller write separate receipts for tires and wheels since tires will not end up on challenge car?

For example rims and tires that are take offs, tires have 80% tread wear left so are FMV at 50% of retail, so if the tires retail for $100 then the FMV of the tires are $200. If the wheel and tire package is $250 then the rims have a value of $50. If I bought these for the $250, had the seller write two receipt one for $200 in tires and one for $50 for rims, then in theory that is only a $50 hit to my budget, provided the assumptions above are true. Trying to think this through before making a decision.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

As a fellow Gastropod competitor.  I think having two receipts is totally legit.

Thanks, sounds like that would work, we will have to see when we could get together. I'm in Orlando area. I'm going to keep looking for a deal on a matched set, but this gives me a no budget option if we need it. Thanks

How are the Firestone tires working for you? Thanks for the feedback, still new to all this, and I don't want my team disqualified for a dumb move on my part.

I can't remember but I think I gave you my number at Mark's. Feel free to text or call me. To be honest text is best as I don't have my phone over half the time. I might be down your way in a couple of weeks. I don't mind handing these off and if they don't work give them back at the Challenge.

OK we found some new rims, thanks to Stampie for the offer of a switch but I think we can keep these under budget. we got a set of infinity Q50 rims for $50. They were on FB marketplace for $100 and I sent the guys a message with our story and needing something for the challenge and offered him $50 and he said yes to helping us out. So home hey cam and $15.16 ( we have calculated the cost of paint and activator by ounce and keep track of what is sprayed on car) worth of paint later they should be ready for new rubber tomorrow.
