NMNA, but it MIGHT BE SOON!

Somebody save me.
Anyone know the specifics of Mazda's, 100k, "all things rotary" warranty?
Looks like I found my own answer:
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/05/mazda-extends-rotary-warranty-on-rx-8-to-100k-miles/
The warranty for the car is long gone, which is why prices for cars over 8 years old with engine problems are pretty low. Compared to FC RX-7s, there is a serious lack of used parts for the RX-8s, so overhauling an engine can run pretty close to the cost of just buying a factory reman engine, which is over $2k.
I've emailed the guy. I don't NEED 3 RX-8s, but at that price there is profit to be made.
Cotton, until you crack open the engine and find out what has to be done, you can't really say.
New rotor housings are $700-$800 EACH. An apex seal kit is $1500ish.
A reman engine from Mazda is north of $2k, but might not use all new parts.
I went and looked at it at lunch time. It is about a mile away from my house. I am seriously torn on buying this or not.
I'm going to have a shell for sale soon. Probably SOONER if I buy this, since as far as I know this one doesn't have a salvage title.
The shell will be priced low enough for somebody to buy it, do a budget engine swap and still make it under challenge money if they do it right. Stay tuned.

Atkins Rotary lists their more comprehensive rebuild kits including their apex seals plus the usual water seals and all that for $1200-$1300 for the RX8. Obviously those are without the rotor housings. Might be worth a look.
It could be an ignition related failure which usually gets disguised as an engine failure which is only a few hundred dollar repair. I wish this was local I would snatch this.
And I would avoid atkins kits, lots of paper/cork gaskets. Rotary Aviation is worth the coin and very comparable in price.
Fidelity, if I do get it a compression test is on the menu.
If this guy would just get back in touch with me, the deal would already be done.
Found this one on the local CL.

Called the seller, and he said it is silver(yuck!) but I may go look at it anyway. Any idea why it is hard starting when hot? Compression is my guess, but it could be other things. I asked him if he has had it looked at, and he says Mazda thinks it is either a fuel problem or compression, but he never had a compression test. No idea why you would do that if you have it at the dealer with a problem.
I live a fair distance to the seller and I like the styling of the RX-8. I never sat in the back of an RX-8 but I don't understand why people and manufacturers want to have a rear seat that is so tiny that a 5 year old kid can't fit. I would rather take the rear seat out or get a 2 seat sports car.

I've had 6'2"+ person sit in the back of my RX-8 and be relatively comfortable. Not day trip comfortable, but maybe an hour or so. They are surprisingly roomy back there once seated. Getting in and out though is a bit tricky. Wouldn't want to try ti without the rear doors.

So how would you know? I double dated in an RX-8 once and it was fine for the ladies in back.
