Hard starting RX-8
"2004 rx8. Has a trouble starting sometimes. But when its on it runs great. Sometimes it wants to start sometimes it dosent. I have no idea what it could be 6speed clutch was done 16k miles ago with the rebuild as well to the engine so it only has 16k miles on everything.
Power windows and a.c. all work
Rpf1s
After market exhaust
Coilovers.
My lost your gain asking 1400 I don't want to deal with it anymore.
Clean Florida title in hand. "
Those wheels are worth half of their asking price.

Dude, that's the deal of the century! Plugs and coils will fix it!!
In reply to Javelin :
How sure are you about this?

Pretty all sure. He mentions a rebuild 17K miles ago and the fact that it runs great when it does run. Weak coils cause the plugs to foul and give this exact hard-to-start scenario. Throw in new plugs and new GOOD coils and it should run like a top.
That guy is a full Rotard, he knows what is wrong and is just playing dumb.

Didagree. He could part out the wheels and coilovers for more than he wants for the whole car.

My guess is the car was previously owned by a rotard who performed the mods. I spoke with him and he says he doesn't know anyone that works on rotaries and isn't sure what the problem is. I'll see more tomorrow morning!
Ha! I very well may do that. I certainly shouldn't, but it's not like I've gotten this far in life being responsible.

We're here to egg you on, but seriously man you can't go wrong on this one!
....and Gastropod eligible ,too.
Javelin is right. Well known RX8 issue. Burn out coils quicker than other cars. Enthusiasts that own or have owned RX8's know about this. Common folk that don't understand rotaries don't.
My main concern is the shape the rest of the car is in. The paint looks pretty faded and miles aren't listed, although I'm happy to see it doesn't have a sunroof.
If the coils are bad, how do I get the car started one last time to drive it to a place I can work on it?
Ok, it’s tomorrow morning - Have you dragged this thing home yet?! Seems like a great deal.

This... This thing has the challenge written all over it.
I did go look at it, but I don't think I'm going to pick it up.
I found a potential source of the ignition problem. Broken strap on a weird HKS grounding system.
The coils themselves are not stock. Not sure what they are, though.
Otherwise the paint is awful and there is collision damage up front.
The "RPF1's" are almost certainly reps. One of them has a bend and the "chrome" finish is rusting. The car is on coilovers. Not sure what brand.
The car has a mystery switch on the dash and a mystery knob on the center console. Neither are labeled. I would've asked the owner about it, but his dad was the one who showed me the car and he didn't know much about it.
It's likely that the car could be parted out for money, but it's pretty rough. It might be worth it to someone with a parts car.

Oh man, those coils are garbage when new (Accel Super Coil) and those aren't even for an RX8! They are GM LS coils (and cheap ones at that) that are clearly done for, look at the far right one. Also mis-matched super-skinny wires (look to be NTK)! The HKS thing is odd, no idea what that is, I couldn't find anything like it on any of the HKS pages. The coilovers are Godspeed's which are $640 new. The wheels are reps, Enkei never made a chrome/black chrome RPF1.
I still maintain it's bad plugs/coils/wires and is still a deal, even with the trashy paint. Be a Challenge hero!
Talk him down to $500. Haha
That's about as rough as I imagined it would be. And I shouldn't be surprised those are not real Enkei wheels.

FWIW I had that same "HKS Grounding Kit" on my car for a while. It's an eBay special. I think it was like $10 including the "hub" where all the wires connect to, and a set of 6 or so ground wires. Honestly it probably has zero to do with the hard start issue. I'm betting those junk coils have very much to do with it.
If it were me and I had the cash, I'd probably go for it, but I am a rotard and I love money pits. Throw a set of Diamond steelies on it with some RS4's, replace the coils, and have a $2000 trackday slut.

If it's like the 2004 RX8 I had, that switch and knob probably went to aftermarket boom-blaster & amp. Mine had some stereo wires in the trunk I traced down the switch on the dash. Amp was removed when I got it.
Coils wires and plugs will make that run. I might fly down and get it. I still have a good set of snow tires for my last rx8. They are fun in the snow.
