Yeah, probably. I've seen healthy running golfs and jettas from that era with almost 500k on original engines.

My Golf had something around 240k-ish when I got it, and my Quantum (which the Internet will tell you is horrible because it is longitudinal) has around 380k. Original engine, head gasket, transmission, and clutch

I think VW made their clutch linings out of granite. I bought my Golf because the owner was dreading when the clutch was going to die. When I sold it, the clutch and the engine were the best parts of the car.

Someone needs to buy that and make another pi odometer photograph.
