Saw this and.. .. . well.. . .. . I want it but if I bring another car home at the moment my wife will make me sleep in it and it is getting really cold at night these days so I thaught I would pass it along.

This is local to me and I desperately need a cheap 2nd car. I know nothing about Saturns. Are these any fun?

Oh my, yes. Saturns weigh very little for their size and they have next to no bushing material in the suspension (thus why they only ever had 14 and 15 inch wheels, the tires were the compliance) so they are very fun, direct cars to drive.

Downside is that they can rust out pretty badly and you won't even notice it because of the plastic body skin. The roof, hood, and unibody construction are steel, the rest are plastic panels held on by funny looking Torx bolts. The front subframes are especially prone to fail where the control arms mount, so this is something to look out for.

A BIG issue is that the PCM has a high failure rate for the circuits that control the EGR valve. It will set an EGR code because the valve isn't opening. Sometimes a failed valve causes the PCM to burn out, but I've seen failed PCMs with good valves, but given the rate of EGR failure that I saw at the dealership, that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Anyway, PCMs need to be flashed, and Saturn dealers won't reflash an aftermarket PCM, while there are no PCMs available through the dealer network, so you have to find an independent shop that has invested in the equipment to reflash Saturns or a vendor that will repair your PCM.

But if it passed inspection, this isn't going to be an issue for you.

I'd love one of those... I've always regretted getting the SL2 instead of the SW2. My SL2 is still going strong, but if anything happens to it, I'm going to hunt down a wagon...

I had a SW2 back in 2002-2003. I think it was around a 1998 model with only 110k when I bought it. My main memory is how much oil it burned. Started small but grew to about a quart per gas tank. It was a comfortable car that held alot of stuff. I Traded it in on a new Civic and after almost ten years and 170k I think I have used less oil for changes in the Honda than I put in the Saturn

that depends. is lightweight, simplicity, utility, and efficiency... fun?

if that's not enough, the wagons DO seem easier to e-brake slide. i got to where i could U-turn on a two lane road with minimal effort

I got some good info from others here: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/so-saturn/53516/page1/

I ended up with a SL1 5 speed as my winter beater and am happy with it. Not "Forget the Miata, this is awesome" happy, but happy.
