Located in Jonesboro, GA. Just south of Atlanta. price is obo

It runs decent,(if you hotwire it), as the original wiring is shot.

It drives decent, ( up and down the side street, where we were road testing it). It stops decent, ( we refreshed the wheel cylinders, and installed a mid 80's Monte Carlo master cylinder) .

The tires are dry rotted, and checked, but they hold air at the present.

The upholstery and seat padding are completely gone, ( but I have the seat frame and springs assembly).

The engine is a small journal 327 Chevy, ( I researched the numbers, 2 years back, and they verify it), and no, I don't have them handy, (the numbers), you can look them up when you buy it.

It is installed, and attached to the original transmission, with an Offenhauser adapter, and the engine is adorned with "Jasper Engines" rebuild badges, ( when it was done, I do not know), it runs good, and does not smoke or knock, and shows good oil pressure @ a hot idle, of approx 15lbs.

Condition of the pump, is unknown, ( but the pump is there).

Condition of the water tank is unknown, ( but it is there as well).

Condition of the two speed rear axle, is unknown.

The fuel tank on it , has been cleaned and coated, with a fuel and fluid resistant primer, and it is holding up well.

AND, it still has the siren/light combo, mounted to left front fender, ( condition unknown, other than a cracked lens on the light).

It does not have, the cast aluminum, American Lafrance logo with it, (whereabouts unknown).

These are ALL, of the pictures I have of it, enjoy them, and use them to reach your decision.

This vehicle is sold in as is condition, with no warranty written or implied, and the vehicle will be sold with a bill of sale, as that is the minimum required, of a vehicle this age, to constitute a legal sale in this state. If you need a title, that will be up to you.

Any questions, or to make sale and pickup arrangements, P M me please.

Thanks.

That seat is about as Grassroots as you can get.

I so want a fire truck, but want a flat front LaFrance. I guy In Montgomery Al had one he used for his lawn spraying business.

This is a 58 LaFrance. It looks like it has a flat front.

My parents live in the PRC. They said that when the hills are-a-burning, some neighborhoods have their own fire trucks and those are the only neighborhoods that survive. Someone owns the truck as a "hobby" and fully restores it. I think the neighbors help out. In return, they basically have formed their own volunteer fire department without the paperwork. When the fire comes, they get the truck out and save their homes.

I like that racing seat too.

The water tank could be turned into a giant kegerator for an awesome Challenge support vehicle.

I could be talked out of mine for not a lot of cash. Significantly bigger than the Ford one Sobe's selling, and currently sans engine, but full of potential.

Air brakes? What's the GVW?

I don't have a CDL.

Hydraulic brakes, 8x20 wheels means 12000lb gvw, which is under CDL. Original 372 flathead v-12 gas engine made 275hp, so even an LS1 (or the MOPAR industrial 361 that's in it now) will make as much power as stock.

So how much talking is required to talk you out of it?

You could buy this thing, scrap everything from the cab back and probably make your money back. I see stainless steel and aluminum, and that pump is probably a few hundred pounds. Find a roll-back or flat bed for it and call it a day.

Having owned one now for 2 mos... 6.6L Duramax swap. Your going to want some torque to get that thing moving.

Is it in Pickens or in MN?

Neither, mine is in SD, zip 57069.

At the risk of thread hijacking I'd take $800 for mine as it sits. Extra pair of 22.5 wheels on Budd rims for the front, several extra Daytons for the rear, newer Dayton front axle as well if you wanted them to all match. I do have all the engine covers that it came with stock but any v-8 will fit under the floor in the back of the cab so you would want the room for something else anyway. Rear axle is out of a Dodge d-500 dump truck, and is 2-speeds. Original 5-speed and linkage should all work, though you would need driveshafts. It's an SAE bolt pattern, I think, so you should be able to bolt it to a lot of diesels.

I mis-typed above, too. The truck doesn't have a GVWR plate anywhere, too old, but it had 8x20 tires. Tires this size are usually limited to 500lbs for inch of width by law, so the max would be 24,000 lbs, just over CDL. Since there is no GVWR, though, I register it according to what I want to haul, which is currently 16k. It actually has antique plates on it now, which are interestingly enough weight exempt, and that is a common loophole for a lot of states if you're hauling special purpose cars on it and not for hire. The weight of the trailer in the picture, with the Samurai frame on the back and an 800lb Chrysler big-block was just under 10k. Figure 1600 for the trailer and we're talking an empty weight with no bed or engine of 7.5k. Add an aluminum Jerr-Dan and your choice of diesels and you'll be just over 9k, which is probably more than a 1-ton truck and trailer, but not by a lot.

Anyway, it flat-tows pretty well, and I have a tow-bar for it, if you would rather behind a 1-ton pickup. That's how I moved it from WV to NY when I bought it. Got a couple good local driveshaft shops too, and all the fab tools you could want, if you wanted to bring your choice of drivetrains and drive it home. It has a known good radiator and the brakes are easy enough......

First I apologize to Sobe - Death for threadjacking, but OldOpelGuy, where is this thing? NY, Minnesota or South Dakota?

$800 isn't the issue, hiking it cross country is.

Thanks.

Oy.

I've done silly things for cars before. NY to Detroit in a snow storm, got thrown off the highway to a place with no electricity, dragged a $300 Corvair back through slush; pulled a Samurai 400 miles with a rope, drove a Spitfire 300 miles with an open header, even out ran Connecticut's finest in a formula ford.

Hiking a Fire Truck 1400 miles might just get me the spousal foot tap.

You know the one, stands on the porch, arms akimbo, tapping her foot with that puss on.

Wicked cool vehicle and I could make magic with it, but not today.

Thanks for the info and patience.

Dan
