This is on a vw pan isn't it? I wonder how hard it would be to alter some things and actually make it MR.

Looking at the floors and the lug pattern I don't think it's VW based.

In reply to 914Driver:

The latest in CL vocabulary. "Rat rod": anything old and rough enough that normal people would probably only buy it for parts. Kinda like how "no rust" means no rust you can immediately see, and no holes underneath bigger than your fist.

I believe that is an Avenger GT...something like that.

That's an unfinished kit car, not a rat rod.

A mid engine variation of the Avenger called the Valkyrie was made for small block Ford and Chevy engines using a Corvair transaxle. A few were built by Fiberfab themselves as seen here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replica-Kit-Makes-Fiberfab-Valkyrie-1967-fiberfab-valkyrie-745-actual-miles-factory-built-/181251469651?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2a336df153&item=181251469651&pt=US_Cars_Trucks

The windshield was 65 Corvair while the rear glass was from a 65-66 Mustang fastback. Few were ever completed because the level of needed fabrication skills is very high.

I saw a new-old but complete unbuilt kit with a builder's manual at a swap meet this weekend.

That was probably right up there with the Bradley GT as the most common kit car of the 70's.
