Wow, I had no idea they were such turds.
I just figured it would be cool to drive to work on occasion or, if the chirpy engine could be properly muffled, it might even be a neat date car.
Husbands DO actually think about that sort of stuff on occasion!...but usually it's only used as justification to buy a car.
That's what I love about this board (club). You can dig up an obscure thing and not only will at least one person have at least some knowledge about it, but they have likely "been there and done that" first hand!
Shameless self promotion; abandoned Gazelle kit car
Wow.... I have one of these at work right now.
The one we have looks identical to the one in the photo, but ours Is not VW based, it's a Chevette, Literally everything is Chevette except the frame and the body. Engine, trans, suspension, steering column, wiring...
BTW - Chevette fuel sending units are not available anywhere.

Not the same kit the one you are talking about is a lot better. Its like comparing apples to oranges. It most likely has a mmmustang II found end some people did try the chevette front steering it was a lot easier using the mustang there were a lot build on the pinto drivetrain also. I always wanted to cut the fenders off and put a flathead in one and make a tiny roadster
I don't know if a flattie would fit in that tiny engine bay. Maybe a V8-60 would. I got to see one of those in person yesterday, it looks like something that wants to be a Flathead Ford when it grows up. Maybe the size of a modern V6 engine block, bare.
No doubt that kit cars, even from the same company, come in all sorts of flavors. I only know the one in my shop, and it's a Chevette. The owner wants power steering, and we started calling around looking for a power rack for a Chevette, and people were actually hanging up on us thinking we were prank-calling them.
