Seems like someone could do something cool with this at the current ask: http://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/cto/4782033630.html

Total steal for a challenge worthy beast.

Were all of these supercharged?

In reply to hobiercr:

The early G60 cars were 4-cyl/supercharged, while the later SLC were VR6. It's been quite a few years, but I think '92 was the first year for the SLC.

Are these known for having electrical issues? I know nothing about these cars but this does seem like a great base for a Challenge Car (like I need another one).

Mechanical and some electrical stuff are not hard to find as it's a VW but any thing Corrado specific, well good luck as they didn't sell many of them. A VR6 powered one can be quite fast.

They're the German equivalent of the Bi Turbo. Ok, maybe not quite that bad, but they are very sexy and great driving cars - when they work. I had a '93 for a couple years, and consider myself very lucky that the only 2 problems I had were an inoperable sunroof(like that when I got it) and a TPS sensor that failed.

For the G60 cars, supercharger maintenance/repair was the main expense, although I believe the engine is otherwise solid so there are creative alternatives. Electrical problems usually related to issues with the automatic seatbelts, automatic rear spoiler, factory stereo...items you can lose for a Challenge build. Although bad grounds are a potential issue for any VAG product of that era.

The chassis is a mix of MkII/MkIII parts, so that's cheap & easy to deal with.

All but the VR6 models share the suspension/brakes/subframes with the MK2 VWs. VR6 models used MK3 components. That looks like an unmolested G60 in there, so it's basically a MK2 Golf with a sexy body and supercharged engine. Any MK3 engine should be a fairly easy swap since the G60 rebuild can be pricey.

Berkeley a G60 rebuild, do a 16V head swap and drop a lysolm unit on that using the Bahm Brenner kit and enjoy

The Lysholm setups are awesome but can't imagine it fits the challenge budget. I was looking at the 944 supercharged conversion ala buick parts that was also intriguing.

For Challenge worthy events it's easy enough to do a twin charged version with the 16v head the factory g60 setup and a turbo... VW built some of these examples in their motorsports team. They also offered this on the new 1.7 sirocco for a short time...

Solid bottom end on these is boost friendly and is actually closer to a 1.9 than the other 1.8s but can't remember the exact cc difference.

Substitute a supercharger from a Buick Regal or Park Avenue or whatever other ones were available in the 90s.

Didn't need to see this. Was just thinking of a Corrado with a LS swap(rwd) the other day. Don't let my wife see this, she'll buy it

Love that body style.

If anyone is interested I would be willing to go take a look at it for you since it's local to me... If I hadn't just bought a RWD driveline, I would be all over this.

John, you need another car.

Looks like the Recaros have been swapped out for Mk3 seatsin the front maybe? Corrado seats are great.

You'll need to log in to post.
