I can't confirm it's a GTUs (note the little "s") since the stickers on the fender is missing (and there's only one picture), but everything else looks authentic. Good chance to buy a unicorn if it's real - Mada only built ~1200 of the things and they are stripped-out racer's specials.

I prefer the '88 GTU model, but those are pretty good, too. I looked at that and didn't even feel one twinge of "want". I guess seven FCs was enough.

I understand the original intent was to put a three rotor, non-turbo engine into those, but the turbo was more efficient.

I'm not sure if I read that right, did you mean its intent was for the FC or the GTUs? Because I know that the GTUs didn't have the turbo motor.

I have been looking for a descent GTUs forever and of course I don't have money when one pops up and it looks to be not riced or drifted out.

The GTUs was rumored to have been intended to have a non-turbo three rotor in it. They decided to keep the turbo model as the top of the line and put the regular N/A motor into the GTUs.

If I could find an 87 Sport or an 88 GTU in good shape, I'd probably buy them.

The '88 will have real three point seat belts and a clutch type LSD vs. a Viscous. The 88 will also have a mechanical oil metering pump vs. an electronic one, so it is easier to bypass if you want to pre-mix without having the car go into limp mode.

Swap the tail lights, wheels, front and rear bumpers and get a set of S5 mirrors, and you wind up with a better car that looks about the same, in my opinion.
