Would anyone be interested in a 1962 fitch sprint corvair stationwagon? It is to my knowledge one of one ever. I built it a while back with original fitch parts , , then had the usual divorce etc and now have no time and no room to store it , it needs restoration or 2014infication . underbody supports have rust , but floors and body pretty solid ,engine built by larry claypool back years ago ,102 hp engine with a turbo cam 2 carb variety, power glide auto , fitch front and rear suspension and fast steer arms , paint job , wood wheel, will also fit a nice porsche motor in back or a small block chevy ;) i would like to see it back running in anger . on craigslist buffalo ny area ,several pictures , asking 1500 obo .
Here's the listing----http://buffalo.craigslist.org/cto/4489750784.html
Doesn't look to far gone..... Is there documentation of it being a real Fitch car?
I don't think Mr. Fitch had anything to do with this car. An automatic?
Paging SyntheticBlinkerFluid....
Why are you saying it's a Fitch? What is there to make you believe it really is one?
yes it is classified by corsa rules as a fitch sprint .I converted it as was done in the sixties by persons ordering parts from fitch and installing them themselves or having a dealer do it , I obtained original fitch parts. One may look on the corvair center forum or contact rick loving as I worked with him to get some of the parts . I have sold some of the parts over the years like the cool stone guards . As per corsa rules a certain number of fitch accessories officially classifies the car as a fitch sprint for corsa competition , i certainly am not trying to jack up the price on a concours car ,this is a very inexpensive classic autocross or race toy at best . you will never make a mint restoring any corvair to perfect unless it is indeed very rare and perfect or has competition cred and log books . this car would be an heroic restoration ,and I advise against any such attempt , make it solid , play with it , drive the hell out of it and smile .
He didn't claim it was a Fitch car exactly, he said he built it himself using Fitch parts. From the first post: "I built it a while back with original fitch parts"
Anyone who knows corvair history knows fitch sold parts ala cart . not all cars were converted by his shop and there is no special i.d plate or constructor number on any of them . any corvair can be made into a sprint by installing fitch parts ,some were done by fitch's garage some by owners some by dealers , this is not like a yenko or shelby . some may have the original bill of conversion from a dealer or fitch , . thats all you would have to go by .

His first sentence says so. Then later he says he built it. Exactly why is it super rare?
EDIT: Ok, I read the followup post.
That's a really neat car. Someone here needs it, but THIS someone is too far away to consider it.

Wow! Bravo on a superbly written response. No hostility, no puffery, just a crystal clear and concise explanation. I am very impressed!

Me too/I need less projects, not more. I do love the Vair wagons though
That's a KILLER deal for that car in that condition ! ! Especially for one here in the North East.
If it were a standard, it would be mine already. Someone has to scoop this up.
