It is a longshot, but maybe somebody within a few hours of Raleigh, NC has one of these sitting in their shed. Maybe they stare at it and think, "If only that thing was gone, I could put an LS6 there. Then, once I had the engine, I could cruise the Atlanta Craigslist for a suitable donor for it. Maybe I could post a 'Learn Me' thread about engine swaps."
If you are that person, let me know. I need a VG33E engine.
As an alternative solution, if you want to rebuild a VG33E engine or know somebody who can do it for a reasonable price, let me know.
if I had rebuilt a vg before I'd be tempted to say I'd do it, but I've only done qr, vq, and vk, and those were at school.
I had no idea how bloody expensive these things were. Are the Maxima guys buying the blocks and putting the DOHC heads on them or something?
Are you re-building one for a Pathfinder? Or are you building a frankenstein motor for a Maxima or Z32? And if so, why would you choose one over a VG30?

because the supercharged vg33 makes fancy whirring noises! (and isn't any quicker than the NA one lol)
In reply to ProDarwin:
I am replacing one in my $350 Xterra, but good guess.
It looks like I am going to wind up with a $2000 Xterra if I just buy a junkyard engine and do the work myself or a $1200-$1500 Xterra if I rebuild my current engine properly.

Will the supercharger work with the VG30DETT? Drop one of those in an turn the boost up to infinity. Probably not much cheaper than a VG33 motor though.
someone on here had a vg30et complete setup for sale for like $150. This was a year ago or so but he had a couple of them. I wanted it for my datsun but it's a hefty swap into that chassis, I would think another vg would just about bolt in for you though.
something to think about
Maybe you can find a wrecked Xterra or Pathfinder or Frontier or QX4 and steal the motor from it?
That's the current plan, Sethmeister.
The main issue with this SUV is that it is going to have to pass an emissions inspection, so crazy engine swaps are currently not on the table.
It is easier to find a VQ engine.
I have no idea why. If I thought I could make the swap work and still pass emissions, I'd try it. Given how this is going, I might just sell the truck as it is.
Just checked copart and there are 5 at the Raleigh facility. Do these things have crap brakes? I only ask as most have front end damage.
I'm watching Copart. Raleigh pulls cars from a wide area.
The brakes are fine if they are maintained. I think that maybe part of the problem is that they have a 5000 lb towing capacity but lots of people don't fully understand towing.

But it's a long ways from Raleigh.
A flat rate pick n' pull is just what you need. Stuff is cheap.
Yep, I'm checking the local ones, but Xterras and Frontiers seem to be a bare frame within 24 hours. There are a few local crews who do nothing but scour the yards and resell the parts.
