I built then daily drove a 54 Chevy for about six years. What a pain that was. I like to say that the 54 Chevy was what made the 55 Chevy such a blockbuster.
54 Chevy had....
-Crappy inline six cylinder engine -Non synchro three speed transmission -Enclosed torque tube driveline -Six volt electrics -Vacuum wipers -Master cylinder under the floor on the frame rail -Vacuum wipers
By the time I got mine done it had a small block, auto trans, Mustang II suspension, disc brakes, open driveline, Nova rear differential and 12 volt electrics. But, literally every thing I touched on the car required me to modify something else. For instance to change out the old babbit six cylinder I had to change the trans too. But to change the trans did away with the torque tube driveline, so I had to change the rearend too.
Mine had the stock Engine, Trans and Rear......and could run 22 in the quarter. Stop laughing! That was in the 70's.....22 was faster then, than it is today....said my wishful thinking self.

When i was 16 i raced light to light in mine(powerglide) with original 6 versus a 3 speed car. It was extremely boring and there were economy cars stacking up behind us who wanted to go the speed limit. I believe the road test from 1954 showed 21 second 0-60. Now it goes 13's.
I don't have a picture, but I had a '54 four door; robin's egg blue and white WITH skirts!
Mrs. 914 lived in a small town and never learned to drive, she took her road test on it. GAREATTT!! drive-in movie car!
I miss it.....
That is VERY cool... do you suppose it was an airport/hotel shuttle?

Nice work! But,I am a little perplexed by that post... I thought changing all of that stuff was part of the experience...

That is one good looking more-door!
I am wierd and prefer the 53's, but I might be biased
