I shouldn't do this, because I really want this as a test mule for the racecar engines.

That thing is so flipping clean. It is just begging for a turbo 4. I would rather not have manual steering and brakes though.
This is so perfect for my needs, put in the cheaty race motor, pound the poo out of it to prove its worth then swap it into the racecar. It will likely go to someone with dreams of a V8 and a time slip.
I could winter beater it without feeling bad about ruining a solid car. Oh wait it’s only a 2.3 cylinder. I need one with a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder.
If SWMBO wasn't already complaining about my collection of project cars I'd go look at that. I happen to have a set of chromed Panasports that would make it completely kitschy.

I would be more inclined to drop in the Focus SVT motor. The Fairmont will weigh less than a Focus, so it should move out fairly well. Needs a 5 speed, too .

If it has a T-4 four speed, than its an easy swap to a five speed T-5, but you will have to adapt the bellhousing to the Zetec. If its the Ford of Germany (FOG) Type E, then the Zetec bolts right up but you have to find a relatively weak Type 9 five speed from a Merkur to bolt in.
