1/2 way down page 2.

Like I said, this thread is convoluted. It should be in the first post.

And, that's not a link. This is a link:

...and now that I've seen it, you've GOT to fix the title.

That is NOT a 19' trailer. It's a 12' trailer. Anyone looking for a trailer knows this, and will read that ad and loose faith in you.

Mark:

Here's how to do the "Linky thing":

  • Copy your entire URL, including the HTTP.

  • Click on the link icon at the top. If you hover your mouse over it it says "Insert link".

  • Paste you url into the window that says "Link URL".

  • In the window that says "Text to Display", you must give it a name. If you don't give it a name, it won't show anything.

  • After pasting it in the thread, you must hit the return key after your link.

Now you are just arguing. You asked, I answered.

In YOUR CL market, there are 27 trailers cheaper than yours listed TODAY. Most of them are boat trailers or utility trailers, but with some modification...

There is an 16' actual car trailer listed in your market cheaper than yours that appears to need tires, and little more.

And if I was in the market, I'd jump on that 6 1/2 ton Eager Beaver tag along 15' trailer long before I'd look at yours for the same price. There is a decent tilt bed car trailer for $2400.

Your ad doesn't say it's a car trailer. It says it's an odd utility trailer that you have hauled a car on. It says it could be nice with some modifications (like the others listed cheaper). It says it is a 10K trailer, but no proof.

If you are trying to maximize it's value by selling it as an equipment trailer (which is not a bad idea), then call it a 12' trailer, and prove the weight rating. Equipment trailer buyers know the difference (but they are gonna buy the Eager Beaver first).

These are the perceptions you are giving. These are the reasons it is not selling.

Did you read the ad? I addressed many of your comments in my ad. I believe I gave a lot of information. Much more than most people. I'm saying this as someone who's actively shopping for a second enclosed trailer.

I'm sorry you see it as negative. I was trying to give you constructive feedback. You asked why it's not selling-I tried to answer.

Perhaps someone else can offer you a more positive answer as to why it's not selling.

I made adjustments based upon your recommendations. Will go out and measure the axles and frame.

Just for comparison, Mark, I bought a 1 year old 20' car hauler about a year ago. The flat portion of the deck is 18 feet long, with a 2' kick-down/ beavertail. So 20 of total deck length. The tongue is about 3 or 4 feet in front of that, so the total trailer length is 24'. But it's sold and commonly referred to as a "20 foot trailer". The axles are 5,000 each (documented) and the tires are 15", 6 bolt, 2500 pounds rated each (x4). brakes on both axles, all the electrics, lights, etc.

I paid $2700 for this trailer. New it goes for about $3200. It was in like-new condition.

I wanted a 10k trailer because given the size of the trailer, I could conceivably tow something quite large, like a crew cab truck or something, or two smaller cars. And i appreciate the extra factor of safety. For a trailer as small as yours, though, about all you'd really be towing on that is small cars, so the 10k capacity isn't as useful. It might work for a bobcat or some sort of small equipment, but then most guys will just buy an 18 or 20' equipment trailer and have extra room for other stuff.

Your trailer would be great for someone who wants to haul their auto-x/ HPDE/ LeMons/ Chump/ etc Miata/E30/MG to and from the track. I think the price is OK, but its a small group of likely buyers. So you'll either have to sit on it and wait for the right buyer, or list it at a discount and hope someone picks it up because it's a bargain. I bet you'd get some nibbles at $1500.

Oh, and also include the title info. I know a lot of people (myself included) only search for stuff with good titles. MD is a particular PITA about that.

EDIT: I see you write the tires are load range C. That's 1820 pounds. Times 4 tires, that's only around 7k pounds.

These are what I have on my trailer:

LOAD RANGE E TIRES

My understanding is tire load range is the letter (C in this case) and size (mine are 205/75-15). Not all Cs are equal. But you are correct in that to get to 10k it should be a d or e. Just not easy with this size. Mine are 2150 per tire so, 8600#s max, by tire. Like I said, A Tahoe will fit and towed fine, but I bought it to haul an RX7 so it was more than enough. I also listed equipment as this has a really stout frame and axle set up. I need to get under it so I can post measurements.

Frame is 2" x 4" box section with 6 2" x 4" c channel cross-frame reinforcements. The axles are 2' diameter with coil spring suspension.

2" dia axles are not 5,000 lb rating:

Trailer axle rating by diameter

Do you have an ID tag on that trailer that identifies it as a 10,000 lb trailer?

Mark -

Paul's giving you good advice - I think his points are all spot-on. He's not telling you what you want to hear, but he is speaking the truth. Some trailer buyers are more sophisticated than others, but most of the folks on this forum are going to ask the questions he's asking.

Another potential market is the Cobra kit cars - I think they'll fit on a 12' or 13' trailer.
