I'm looking for a complete, and preferably running air cooled VW engine a reasonable drive from the Cincinnati area. Would prefer a 1600 dual port, but beggars can't be choosers, and I'd rather get my new acquisition up and running. The cheaper the better :)

Did you buy what i think you did?
Im hoping for a Bradley GT in 70's Brown flake.
In reply to John Welsh :
That is hideous and awesome at the same time.
Don't miss the all glass roof/door one piece which had no way to "roll down the window". Then remember that it is VW based which was bad at heat and even worse at AC. It's an oven!

In reply to John Welsh :
The fix for the heat and ac is just a subaru away.
Anyway, I still have my 1600 dp dual empi hpmx??? carb engine. I prefer not to ship and I am in NH. The carbs seemed not to like the 10%ethanol fuel and had to be cleaned often, at least twice a summer. I'm
I was hanging on to it for a future street sand rail or dune buggy project. I dont know it's value, the local bug guy wants it, has driven the car before it was removed but never thrown out an offer. I do have a video of it running just b4 yanking it to make room for the ej22. The dog house tin should be replaced, it was dimpled to make the carbs fit.
In reply to lrrs :
Thanks for the offer, but NH is probably just too far, at least in the short term
If anybody near Spartanburg, SC has a dual port AC VW for sale, drop me a line. I've been wanting to build a Volks Air compressor for a while.

I like the blue one, as long as it does not smoke when running and driving. Did a quick search on Car-part to see what yards are getting. I was shocked, 450 for a frozen motor to 1450 for one that they will start on the floor. I think the best bet is to buy a runner, take out the motor, part / scrap the rest.
I may have lucked into an engine that needs a bit of assembly with someone I rallycross with. Here’s hoping. Engines are obviously not a dime a dozen like they were back in the 90’s

Maybe you just need to swap in a Subaru engine...
If I was in my current situation when I was going to buy that car 6+ years ago I would have done it. It needed too much for me at the time.

Yeah, when it was for sale back then I was buying parts for the Neon build, and wasn’t going to have time to mess with it. The next time it came up for sale(that I knew about) was right before the Lemons rally, and I was going to check it out then, but our car for the rally broke down and we needed the time to get it back together. I had thought it was sold once I got back, so I stopped pursuing it. The guy I’m buying it from bought it for the transmission, and he bought it from someone who bought it for the engine.

The blue one is pretty local to me if you pursue it. I can have a look.

I just remembered that there is a Karmann Ghia in the local junkyard (or was a couple weeks ago). If you want I can go back and see if the engine is still there. It was complete last time I saw it.
I have one in Charleston SC that is free to a good or bad home. It's taking up space in my garage and the sand-rail I got it for is long gone.

Are you talking to me? Are you talking to ME?

Yea, you used to be able to pick them up for a hundo all day long.

Yes please! Couldn’t hurt to have some spare parts, although is that the one Jake filmed? I thought it might have been marked sold, and no parts could be pulled?

Yea, that's the one. Sometimes they mark them like that then move them to the yard later. I'll check on it this weekend.

There is actually a convertible in the yard at Bessler's that I saw last Sunday. I didn't inspect it at all, so I have no idea if the drivetrain is there...

Hmm, I may have to go there on Sunday, then. The engine I’m getting cheap locally is headless. Plus, any spare parts would be good to have.

There are a ton of watercooled peeps in Cincy. It's worth checking out the Fuel Cars & Coffee on Sat mornings as there are often aircooled guys that show up. I'm usually there with my caddy or the rabbit. This Sunday there is also a Gears & Beers event at Madtree Brewing.

Or not - just looked at the inventory pics - no engine
