My car is an 84 but with an 86 engine, DME and AFM and it needs a tune....BAD so I'm in for the single cam setup too!
The trouble with the early flywheel triggered 944s is that they used special electronics to make that work. The easiest way for us to get around having to reverse engineer this would be to use the MS3, which has enough processing power to brute force it without special hardware. So it's possible for us to build an MSPNP for the earlier or turbo models, but would take a bit more development time and a larger price tag.
Would still be interested! Have you priced a DME lately? Or even worse, one of the flapper boxes? I'd love to go MS + MAF!
