I have a 5spd installed with the larger wagon sway bar. I dropped the front of the sway bar by 30mm to make it level and I've never heard it knock on the gearbox. Two different gearboxes so far have been sweet.

Or, You can make up some radius arm attachments and use a strap on sway bar if you wanna get carried away but I'd just give it a go as is for now.

I think they called that a Yugo in the US. The Yugo suspension is a direct copy of a 128 sedan. Your sway bar pokes through the control arm and is retained with a big nut on the end, right?

Saturn S series (at least the early ones) used a very similar arrangement that might work (and be considerably stiffer) if you're comfortable narrowing one.

The 2-doors, 4-doors, Wagons, and Yugos use the front anti-roll bar as the lower forward suspension member. Only the SL and 3P use the radius rod setup.

I had a wagon front bar on my Yugo and 128 2-door. Also had the Wagon rear third-leaf spring on the back, before converting to coilovers. Still have the complete rear third leaf setup in the corner of the garage...

Also, I remember some discussions about distributors. Yugo dizzys were electronic, and available in junk yards cheap. I converted the 72 race car to a Yugo dizzy in about 5 minutes...never had to mess with points again.

I wonder how hard it is to build a blade-type adapter and then just use a circle track bar.

Probably more trouble than finding someone with an unoccupied mandrel bender and a length of spring steel.

Donor car acquired! 1.5l, 5 speed, and fuel injection for $500.

I'm going to have a hard time parting this car out. It's seriously mint: Very straight, very rust free, and the interior is immaculate. It sounds like it will go to a good home sans drivetrain; one of our other members has already expressed interest in it.

I've been told the suspension is slightly different to the 128's, it'll be nice to see what you find.

Good to see the car itself will be a going concern. that car is seriously straight. Also good to know what the top of the Yugo market is currently.

Yeah, couldn't pass it up. Strangely enough, my diabolical plan was supported by Mrs. Burrito (ONE OF US. ONE OF US.)

The seller was super nice, too. Lots of stories to tell and information to give. He also had a quite the inventory of vintage Fiats. Off the top of my head, I would say 5 850 spiders, 3 124 spiders, 1 850 sedan, 1 128 sedan, and (at least) 2 X19s, and I only saw the front yard and garage.

Yikes. Fiat hoarders (or any hoarder for that matter...) seems a little scary to me. Probably seems scary because I'm >< this close to falling off that wagon myself.

Given the humorous tone of the listing, I figured the guy might be entertaining to talk to. I don't recall where it was located- did you have to go far?

Burrito

Hoarder is pretty close to the truth, albeit a little harsh. I think it's more a man who let his hobby get out of hand, which, now that I think about it might be a pretty good definition of "Hoarder".

It was up in Skagit County, so about a 500 mile round trip for me. It's really a $750 Yugo, when you include the trailer rental and fuel.

It hasn't been run in a few years, but I'm confident in my abilities. The seller mentioned that the fuel pump wouldn't run last time he tried to start it, so I'll begin there. I have a nice small Walbro that will fit the bill nicely (and it's already paid for ). Once it's running and sorted I will begin the laborious task of labeling the harness before any actual parts pulling begins. But, this is all going to be pushed back a week or two. I need to get the Scirocco back together and rebuild the Vanos on our E46 Wagon before listing both of those cars for sale. I'm kinda at critical mass on the car front right now and I HAVE to clean house a little bit. There's currently 3 cars parked outside of the shop right now (128, 850, Scirocco) and a Yugo inside.

Anyways, here's some CL shots of the Yugo to tide you guys over for a few days.

Yep. 2000 or 2001, 323iT (so early front corner markers). About 161k on the clock. ZF Automatic, already has the reinforced reverse drum. Titansilber exterior, black leather interior. Base model, no burlwood, sport package or cold weather package and most importantly NOT an iX like every other wagon. No signs of rear subframe failure. It's absolutely stock. I've kept my grubby mitts off of it for 4 years; talk about self control! If you're really interested, I'll get some good pics of it and get you some real information. It will get listed here when it's time for it to go away. Oh, located in Vancouver, WA and has been in the area since new, so no rust. Apart from the lack of a third pedal, it's what I would have ordered from BMW when new.

That is a really clean Yugo. A thing of note on the EFI motor, IIRC they run a different, narrower timing belt than the carbed engine, to make room for the crank trigger wheel. I wouldn't dare crank one without a fresh belt.

In reply to Kenny_McCormic:

I may have forgotten to mention that the Yugo has a Strada 1500 swapped in. So, in theory it should be a non-interference setup, but I will probably heed your advice and swap the belt before hitting the key. The seller was concerned about the mishmash of parts it took to get the right timing belt on the car and that makes a little more sense to me now that I know that there might be special EFI Yugo timing belt. I fully expect there to be some sorting of the EFI specific portion of the swap.

I missed the 1.5 bit, didn't know the 1500 wasn't a valve eater. Poking around rock auto I THINK you need a Gates T069 (1.5 Strada), and the tensioner bearing is likely different. I think the Fiat and Yugo EFI setups may differ as well, it appears the T069 is the same width as the T018 carbed belt but is two teeth and 3/4" longer (116 vs 118), like it has a different tooth pitch. Might want to measure what's there and have a good look around. I've still got it in my head the Yugo EFI belt is narrower. A call to spiderroadster/yugoparts may sort things out, they show different PNs between a EFI yugo and late X19 belt.

I have a line of a newish e46 non wagon locally I know the owner and it's had everything maintained (his wifes car). If that falls through I'll check back in with you. I need a break in the weather first to clean the mustang up for sale. 2 weeks with barely any break in the rain.

Fiat Strada. The X-1/9 engine would be essentially the same, the transaxle case is different though. So be aware.

You can set an email notification on CL for search terms. Set them up on various "local" areas for the same terms and you'll get an email when something comes up.
