So about a year ago I sold my '96 9000 Aero to buy my Miata. At that time I had owned it for about a year and a half with modifications slowly but surely making appearances. Sold it to a friend who added a couple more, with me regretting selling it the whole time.
Well, it's mine again! Traded my Audi A4 for it last night.
Details:
Smoked fender markers -Cheapo boost gauge
Couple pics from tonight:
It's pretty damn clean for a rust belt car. Hasn't seen a winter since 2008 but that'll change this year, which is a bummer, but I'll do what I can to protect it.
Indeed. That's probably the nicest 9000 I've seen in years. At least known to still exist, lol.
I've had a weird hankering for these cars lately I can't really explain. You're not helping either.
I don't think I would have been able to sell that car in the first place. The 9000 Aero is my favorite Saab of all time!
It got some more power recently in the form of a freshly reflashed ECU. Generic "stage 3" tune, seeing around 20PSI. Theoretically it's somewhere around 250whp/300ft-lb. Now we just have to wait for my mileage unknown stock clutch and 266k trans to asplode
Holy crap I've neglected this thread. Since my last post
The dash cracked in -20* temps
Radiator neck failed
Ignition switch failed (same day as the rad, totally awesome)
Replaced water pump
Removed A/C compressor
Added old Forge BOV
Sold the Saab Tuners, bought some 5 lug Saab "Double 3"'s with the intention of running them with adapters. Then decided I'd rather spend that money on my Miata and sold them.
Bought an intercooler + a bunch of piping second hand from my dad
Went to the junkyard and scored big in the form of nearly new looking e-code headlights and grille
So, on with todays update (copy/paste, sorry about references that don't exist here)
So a number of things have happened recently, all at roughly the same time so I'll try to break it up. First: the intercooler.
I ended up trading the one I posted for this monstrosity
So I took the bumper off...
And then took some more of my A/C out. The condenser put up a bit of a fight...
And then, with a bit of hammer-massaging, got it in roughly where I wanted it!
Unfortunately, there wasn't really any room to do things like run hoses to it, so I traded back for the little one and got it mounted.
As you can see I took the opportunity to put these POS's where they've belonged for years; the dumpster.
Then got the IC all hooked up:
Functional, but it was hanging a little too low. IC being the lowest thing on the front of the car = probably bad idea.
So we ended up moving it back, and up just enough. Final product:
And then there's the drivers fender. Over the winter this appeared:
Took off the wheel arch trim and found this :(
Looked around for a good fender without finding much. Then seriks1 offered me this one for a damn good deal ;) It was clean by VT standards... which, of course, means slightly less rusty than mine  There were no holes until I got after it with the wire wheel. Oh well.
After deciding that it wasn't worth spending $xxx having a body shop paint a fender in that condition, my dad mentioned he recently picked up some rattle cans custom mixed to the color code for very reasonable money. Hmm. I've wanted to experiment with something like this for a long time, so why not? Here it is with a guide coat of sorts, wet sanded down and ready for paint for realz.
I went through a can and ended up with this.
Unfortunately one can wasn't quite enough, so we got another and my dad put on the last few coats. Sunday I went up to my parents' and this happened
And on goes the "new" fender!
Then, tonight, I wet sanded it...
And then buffed it. Here's the results...
Not bad for a DIY rattle can job with a total investment of $50, eh? :
DO WANT!
I miss my 9000 CSE terribly . Glad to see someone investing time into one of these cars. I always wanted to get a red Aero model, but could never find one in my price range that was in decent shape.
I had those same tri-spokes on my car, to me they are the quintessential SAAB wheel.
If you ever get the desire to sell, hit me up.
awesome. I once dated a girl with a 9000 that I almost purchased from her. . . the slushomatic was the deal breaker but it was still a fun car. Cool build
Thanks guys.
I just wish these wheels were 1.5-2" wider
t25torx, by that username I'm guessing you've worked on a Saab or two lol. Made the mistake of selling this car once, don't plan on doing it again
Very nice! My sister has a '96 CSE that she's offered to give to me for free, but I haven't taken her up on it because of it's need for a new turbo, and it's automatic transmission.

Do it, then give it to me. I have a turbo I took off my CDE before it was scrapped, problem solved.
those factory wheels look much better than the cheap ones that came with it, real nice resto mod! Whats the details on that undercoating? You got me curious, I want to do that to my truck because its never been in winter yet and it will rust out prettttty quick if I dare drive it (which I want to)
Thanks guys. Been thinking about selling this since I picked up my V70R. As much as I like the Volvo I don't think I can do it. Don't really want to maintain that thing anyway. Anyone want a V70R?
As far as undercoating, this stuff: http://www.fluid-film.com/
Just saw an identical red one for sale on Craigslist in CT, but in pretty shape. Some panels look pink, others appear to have a fresh(er) respray. Quite a bit wrong with it, but hopefully someone rescues it.
